2. PROBLEMS/CONCERNS Ground-water withdrawals are lowering water levels in Louisiana aquifers. In certain areas, these withdrawals are creating conditions favorable for saltwater encroachment. Major aquifers affected are the Sparta, Chicot, and Southern Hills aquifer systems.
