2. Producers Make their own food Plants are Producers
They make their food from the SUN, WATER, and NUTRIENTS in the soil

3. Consumers Can’t make their own food
Need to get food from other animals or plants

Herbivores
Carnivores

Eat only plants
Deer
Cows
Mice

5. Consumers- Carnivores
Eat other animals (meat)
Known as Predators- catch and kill their Prey (the animal that is eaten)
Tigers
Frogs (eat flies)
Sharks

6. Consumers- Omnivores Eat both plants and animals Humans Raccoons Bears

7. Decomposers Eat dead plants and animals Help clean up dead bodies
Fungi (mushrooms)
Bacteria
Worms

8. Food Chain All of these organisms interact to form a food chain
Almost always stars with a plant (a producer)
An herbivore eats the plant, then a carnivore eats the herbivore

9. Food Webs Many animals are involved in Food Webs.
More than one consumer eats the same type of food.
Consumers also eat many types of foods.

*remember, decomposers eat dead animals

The students learned that all of the organisms on Earth are connected through the food chain.
Humans are even part of it. We eat plants and animals. If we lived in the wild, we may become prey to larger animals (sharks)
