We Have Peace with God Romans 5:1

Paul never lost his sense of wonder about the awesome, life changing power of the Gospel. As we look at chapter five we will see four things that only comes from the Gospel of God’s Grace

Peace Hope Love Eternal Life

As God provides nature with all that it needs to produce life and continue on, it’s much more amazing how God through the plan of salvation provides life eternal for all mankind.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. KJV

Christ died in our place and rose from the grave to provide us Peace with God.

Paul showing in chapter one that all mankind are sinners and in need of salvation.

In chapter three we see that Christ is our substitute as he died on the cross and that none is righteous apart from Christ.

In chapter four we see that God’s righteousness is credited to those that trust in Christ and no one can never boast about anything that they have done to earn eternal life.

Paul accomplished two purposes. First, he told how wonderful it is to be a Christian. Our justification is not simply a guarantee of heaven, as thrilling as that is, but it is also the source of tremendous blessings that we enjoy here and now.

Romans 5:1 1Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 1

First of all Paul tells us that we have been declared righteous and that we now have peace with God from his divine wrath. No more judgment to come.

He told how wonderful it is to be a Christian. Our justification is not simply a guarantee of heaven, as great as that is, but it is also the source of tremendous blessings that we enjoy here and now. Dr. Warren Wiersbe Commentary NT

He also assures his readers that justification is a lasting thing. His Jewish readers in particular would ask, “Can this spiritual experience last if it does not require obedience to the law? What about the trials and sufferings of life? What about the coming judgment?”

When God declared us righteous in Jesus Christ, He gave to us spiritual blessings that assure us that we cannot be lost. Dr. Warren Wiersbe Commentary NT

Second we have been restored from our sinful condition and that our fellowship with God is back on track.

Third our alienation from God and restored fellowship with others is back in effect through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

Fourthly peace through Christ empowers believers to become active agents to give the Good News to others by introducing them to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul declares that this peace only come through our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is the agent that God reveals himself as “Yahweh” of the old testament. Our Lord emphasizes a personal relationship that we have only through Christ.

Many people are spending a great deal of money today trying to attain the things that are the present benefits of every believer. That doesn’t mean that all believers are enjoying them. However, God has them on the table for you, and all you have to do is reach over and take them. Dr. J. Vernon McGee

Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

Next time we meet Romans 5:2-5 We Have Christian Hope
