2 What are vowels? A, E, I, O, U Short vowel sounds.
-Example: (Short A) apple. Long vowel sounds. -Example: (Long A) ape. Vowel sounds flow freely through your breath. There are 26 letters in the alphabet and 5 of them are vowels. Vowel letters have at least one type of sounds. Vowels can either have short sounds, long sounds, or no sound at all.

3 What are consonants? The letters: A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L,M,N,O,P,Q,R,S,T,U,V, W,X,Y,Z. The difference between vowels and consonants is when you pronounce consonants, the air flow is interrupted by the position of the tongue, teeth or lips. Most consonants have only one sound and don’t sound like their name.

4 Letter blends: Examples: Cable, fable, daughter, taught.
Certain combinations of two or more consonant letters are known as letter blends. Letter blends appear in the beginning or at the end of words. Together, these words create a certain sound. With letter blends, you can hear the sound of each letter. Let’s practice saying some of these words out loud together.
