3 The Nubble Lighthouse The Nubble lighthouse built in 1879 is currently in York Beach Maine. The lighthouse was supposed to be built in 1874 but they had to wait due to boating accidents. The lighthouse is 88 feet high and is made of brick. The Nubble lighthouse can be called “The Nubble”. The Nubble was fully completed in 1987.

4 Acadia National Park Long ago in the 20 th century people donated the land that became Acadia National Park. The park has plants and animals even the tallest mountain in the U.S. Atlantic coast. The park was made on July 8, 1916 by a man named John D. Rockefeller. The park gets more than 2 million visitors a year. The Acadia National Park is a beautiful piece of land in Maine.

5 Rockland Rockland is located in Knox County. Which was built on July 28, 1848. Rockland has a current population of 7,291. Rockland is home to the Lobster festival every year. In Rockland there is a lighthouse called Rockland Breakwater lighthouse built in 1902.

7 Appalachian Mountains The Appalachian Mountains were formed 480 million years ago. The mountains start in southeastern Canada, continues down into Maine and on. The Appalachian Mountains are the oldest chain of mountains in North America. The Narvaes gave the mountains their name on June 15, 1528. Some animals that live in these mountains are deer, gray fox, black bear, birds, squirrels, and many more.

8 Longfellow Mountains In the year 1959 the Maine legislature gave a mountain range the name Longfellow. This name was in honor of a poet named Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Some animals that live in these mountains are bobcats, moose, deer, and many more. Mt. Katahdin is the highest point in the Longfellow mountains. The Longfellow Mountains are 2,671 feet high.

9 Mt. Katadin This mountain range is the highest point in Maine. Mt. Katadin is in the middle of Maine and is 5,268 feet high. Some animals that live here are black bear, deer, and moose. This mountain is made of granite. This tall and steep mountain was made from underground magma.

11 Portland Observatory and Fort Knox The Portland Observatory was built in 1807. The observatory is 86 feet high and is octagonal shaped. The Portland Observatory is not a lighthouse at all. The observatory is located at 138 Congress St. Portland, Maine. If you want to go to the top it will take 103 steps. Fort Knox was built in 1844. Fort Knox is located in Prospect Maine. When they built the fort it cost them 1 million dollars just to construct the fort. People say there is gold in Fort Knox and it is true that there is 147.3 million ounces of gold. There are 12,377 people living at Fort Knox.

13 Maine State House and Acadia National Park The Maine State House was built in 1832. The house is located in Augusta Maine. The Maine State House became the capital of Maine in 1833. It cost 139,000 dollars to build the Maine State House. The Maine State House is made of granite. The Acadia national park is located at 25 Visitors Center Road. You would get to hike through forests and up mountains. In the park you can go to Bar Island to get the famous lobster and seafood. There are 2 million people who visit the park every year. You would see different kinds of animals like falcons, beavers, deer, snakes, eagles, foxes, and many more.

15 Gulf of Maine and The Atlantic Ocean The Gulf of Maine covers 93,000 square kilometers of ocean. The Gulf is located in southeast Maine. The Atlantic ocean is on the southern coast of Maine. The Atlantic Ocean is even on the coast of Acadia National Park.

17 Finance and Paper Industries Most of the finance industries are in Portland or Franklin Maine. The finance earnings increased by 10.0% and it is the fastest to increase. The governor of Maine makes 70,000 dollars a year. There are 2,667 financial companies in Maine. In 4 months you will make 2,244 dollars. For decades the Maine paper industry has been a major economic engine in rural Maine. The first piece of paper was made in 105 A.D. The paper was made from mashed pieces of mulberry bark. A paper mill was built in 1730. The name of the first paper maker was The Pulp and Paper Association.
