Shakespearean Sonnet Sonnet- a 14 line poem Shakespearean Sonnet – All Shakespearean sonnets contain the following – Three quatrains – Ends in a couplet – Is written in iambic pentameter – Has rhyme scheme in the following pattern: a,b,a,b,c,d,c,d,e,f,e,f,g,g Iambic Pentameter- When a line has exactly 10 syllables and has a pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables

Iambic Pentameter- When a line has exactly 10 syllables and has a pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables Rhyme scheme – the identification of a pattern of sounds in a poem or sonnet Stanza- arrangement or a certain number of lines sharing a specific rhyme, rhythm, length, etc. (a “paragraph” of poetry) Quatrain – a four line stanza Couplet – a pair of lines that rhyme (2 rhyming lines)
