1 FCCLA Student Organization

2 What is FCCLA? Family, Career and Community Leaders of America The non-profit, national vocational education organization for students enrolled in family and consumer courses in public and private schools through grade 12.

3 Who sponsors? It is supported by the U. S. Department of Education through the Division of Secondary Vocational Education and the Amercian Family and Consumer Science Association.

4 What is Kentucky’s Organizational Structure? The organization functions on four levels: National State Regional and Chapter.

5 National level 1 national meeting a year generally held in July with site rotating between several large cities. Examples are: Orlando, FL; St. Louis, MO; Washington,DC 3-4 Cluster meetings per year. This year they are Little Rock, AR; Salt Lake City, UT and New Brunswick, NJ. National headquarters is in Reston, VA

6 State Association 1 state meeting a year held in Louisville, KY at the Galt House usually in the month of March. State Advisor for FCCLA is Reeca Carver State Adivsor for Family and Consumer Science Education is Kayla Godbey

7 Regional level 2 meeting per year in the Fall/ Spring State of Kentucky has 14 regions and we are in region 15. Regional meeting this year is Sept. 25 Sand Spring Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg, KY.

8 Chapter Chapter advisors are the Family and Consumer Science teachers Students are selected by application process for office in the organization Activities at this level are financed through chapter dues, money-making activities, special grants or donations.

9 Who may Be A Member of FCCLA? Any student who is taking or has taken a course in Family and Consumer Science through grade 12

10 Motto and Tagline Toward New Horizons this motto expresses the purpose of the organization –learning to live better today in order that our lives and those of our families may be better tomorrow The Ultimate Leadership Experience.

11 Flower colors Red rose it represents the search for beauty in everyday living. Colors are red and white. Red an intense color suggest strength. White is recognized as the symbol os sincerity.

12 General Information: 219,000 members 6,500 chapter Has involved more than 10 million youth since its founding Only student organization that the main focus is the family. Unique among youth organization because its programs are planned and run by the members.

13 History Timeline June 1945 Future Homemakers of America was founded at a convention in Chicago, IL 1973 The organization’s first male national officer Toney Bingham from Washington, DC was elected 1980 The National Board of Directors approved the purchase of land in Reston, VA 1999-voting delegates voted in favor of name change to Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.
