 Accelerated High School Student Program This is an option available to Athens High School students who have completed 10 th grade, with an overall “B” average or better and who are recommended by for participation.  Forms are available in the Guidance Dept.  This is strictly for college credit. These grades and classes do not appear on the high school transcript.  Students are responsible for tuition, books and transportation.

 Dual Enrollment Classes offered on Athens High School’s campus:  Traditionally, we have offered Dual Enrollment English on our campus. Seniors who have a 20 or higher on the English portion of the ACT are eligible to take ENG 101 and 102 in a semester. Usually offered both fall and spring semesters.  Students are responsible for tuition and books. Tuition is usually @$430 per class.

 Academic Classes offered on Calhoun’s campus:  Students may take a variety of classes at Calhoun. They must register with Gwen Baker, Dual Enrollment coordinator at Calhoun.  On their high school schedule, the dual class will be listed either 1 st or 4 th block. Dual classes will be listed on both high school and college transcripts.  Students provide their own transportation and are responsible for all tuition, books and fees.

 Career and Technical Classes offered on Calhoun’s campus:  A variety of career and technical classes are available at Calhoun.  Some examples: Emergency Medical Technician (age requirement), Aerospace Technology, Aviation Maintenance, Child Development (online), Cosmetology and Welding.

 Students must have a 2.9 GPA and at least 20 on ACT. They must complete a dual enrollment form. They may start taking classes during their junior year.  Tuition cost for the first class each semester is ½ off (@$560 would be their cost). If they take a second class in a semester, it would be full price (@$1,115) so the total tuition for the two classes would be @$1,675. The fees and books would be extra. For example, the parking permit is $120 per year.  Students must provide their own transportation.

 Students may enroll in freshmen or sophomore level classes on a space available basis.  Students submit the undergraduate application, $25 application fee, UNA Early College Approval form (must meet UNA’s enrollment qualifications) and official high school transcript.  Students taking Math or English must have the appropriate ACT scores in those classes.

 The cost per class is $186. This includes tuition, fees and parking. Books are extra.  Students are allowed to take 1 class per semester. They may take up to 5 classes (spring, summer and fall).  Some classes are on UNA’s campus and some are online.  Students are responsible for their own transportation.

 The University of Alabama offers an online dual enrollment program, UA Early College.  Students must have a 3.0+ GPA.  Students start with a “Gateway Course” discounted at @$320, then may take additional courses for @$480 each (plus any lab fees, books, etc.)  For more information, go online to http://uaearlycollege.ua.edu. Literature is also available in the Guidance Department. http://uaearlycollege.ua.edu

 We have contacted AL A&M and Oakwood University. We are waiting to hear back from them on possible dual enrollment options.

 Please let us know during spring registration.  Put a note at the top of your registration card.  Let us know which school you are interested in so we can help you coordinate with the appropriate college liaison.  Let us know what class(es) you are interested in.
