2 1963 - The Bark Petition Petition written on bark Protesting against the commonwealth’s granting of mining rights to Nabalcl over 390 square kilometres of land excise from arnhem land reserve.

3 1966 – Wave Hill Strike Aboriginal pastoral workers walked off the job. Expressed their unhappiness with the poor working conditions and disrespectful treatment.

4 1972 – Grove Land Rights The Yongu people fight for their land rights Justice says Australia was legally Terra Nullis The couldn’t prevent mining on their land

5 1975 – Gurindji Hand Back The Whitlam government came to power. They promised to legislate for land rights. The original Wave Hill lease was surrendered.

6 1976 – Aboriginal Land Rights Act Aboriginal make a effort to inherent right to land recognised Justice Wood Ward, appointed to hold inquiry into appropriate ways to recognise Aboriginal land rights in N.T.

7 1992 – The Mabo Case Australian High Court recognise Australia was not an empty piece of land. Australian High Court recognised the rights of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders were similar to indigenous groups the rest of the world.

8 1993 – The Native Title Act The native title act recognises and protects native title. Validated any past grants of freehold or leasehold interests.
