2 How Do I Know My School Is Ready? What does a school counselor do? How are students different because of what school counselors do? If you can answer these questions, then your program may be ready for RAMP.

3 What Is RAMP? Designation from ASCA that identifies schools that have successfully implemented the National model. Vehicle that allows you to showcase your counseling program to administrators, school boards, and the community.

4 Why RAMP? Gives you the confidence that your program aligns with a nationally accepted and recognized model Helps you evaluate your program and identify areas for improvement Increases your skills and knowledge of school counseling Enhances your program’s efforts toward academic achievement and student success Identifies your school as an exemplary educational environment (taken from ASCA website)

5 What Are The Benefits of RAMP? An engraved plaque, suitable for display Letter sent to school board, principal and superintendent Template press release for you to send to local press Use of RAMP logo for Web site or printed materials Recognition at ASCA’s annual conference Two tickets to Recognition Celebration during ASCA's annual conference Recognition in ASCA School Counselor magazine and on ASCA's Web site

7 Application Process Available on website –www.schoolcounselor.org (click on National Model) Due February 1st of each year $150 application fee ($300 for non-ASCA members) RAMP designation is valid for 3 years Submit demographic and payment sheet Provide evidence RAMP application was presented to school board (signatures or copy of board agenda)

8 Scoring Process Average score of 54 or higher out of a possible 60 Will be scored by 4 assessors Each component will receive a score of 1-5 based on how well you address the rubric –5 = exemplary –4 = good –3 = satisfactory –2 = poor –1 = weak

9 National Model Framework Foundation - what every student will know and be able to do Delivery System - how the program will be implemented Management System - when, why, and on what authority the program will be implemented Accountability - how are students different as a result of the school counseling program

11 Data Process Data - number of students affected Perception Data - pre/post test competency attainment or student data Results Data - how did the student change as a result of the lesson

12 Data Plan out ahead of time. Collect using surveys, pre/post tests, student comments, observations, number of referrals, student grades, etc. DO NOT use state testing results as data unless justified. Make data simple. This is not statistics for graduate students.

13 Implications What does the data tell you? –Was the activity successful? –Did the activity meet your goal? –Is the data accurate and reliable? If not, why? –Did you see something unexpected? –Did it raise other concerns? –What will you continue or change to support further growth? –How will the data be shared to support school goals?

14 Helpful Hints Complete the ASCA National Model program audit Purchase a copy of the National Model from ACSA Identify what sections you may already have complete Plan out what you will do for each section and when you will complete it Focus on the quality of the materials/evidence, not quantity Complete the management agreement and set up advisory board early in the year

15 Helpful Hints Be sure to submit 4 completed binders using the application component page as a cover page with each sections materials behind it Make sure you have signatures on all the necessary pages Have a colleague from another school review the application and see if you have properly addressed the rubrics Be sure to present to the school board and obtain proof
