8 Camp Details Within 30 minutes of arrival on the first day, students are already designing and programming their own robots. Children are provided with opportunities to apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics skills. Participants learn by first building simple robots and then progress to building more complex models.

9 Camp Details (cont.) Students work in small groups to design, build, and program Lego NXT system and VEX robots using laptop computers. (Tetrix and plus new option) Classes are kept small to facilitate the hands-on learning experience and project work. Parents, grandparents, and friends are encouraged to attend the final exhibition and closing ceremonies on the last day of camp.

12 Budget Items Staffing – Instructor $25/hr @ 40-50-60 hrs – TA $15/hr @ 40-50-60 hrs Robot kits – LEGO WeDo $150 plus software & curriculum (1 kit per 3-4 students) – LEGO NXT $300 plus software (1 kit per 3-4 students) – LEGO/Pitsco Tetrix $600 plus software from CMU Robotics Academy RobotC or VEX kits plus some software Game fields – Plywood and 2x4 for LEGO camp – 12 x 12 foot field plus soft tiles for larger robots $1,000
