21. IIPP Quick Review The objective of the IIPP is to establish a proactive safety program that will result in the identification and elimination of workplace safety deficiencies before they occur. The federal Occupational Health and Safety Act, passed in 1970, requires employees and employers to take an active role in ensuring workplace safety. Implementing safe work practices for the task at hand; taking appropriate actions to correct unsafe working conditions; and, discouraging others from engaging in work activities for which they are not appropriately trained are key responsibilities for everyone in the IIPP. Enforcing the safety program within his/her department and assisting in the identification and correction of safety deficiencies within their work area are key responsibilities for supervisors in the IIPP. Some CSU campuses recognize employees who go beyond the normal call of duty to improve safe working conditions by awarding those individuals with a letter of commendation. << Go back to review again

IIPP Quick Review Bulletin board postings, anonymous hazard notifications, employee safety training, written safety programs and group safety meetings are all methods through which safety related information might be exchanged. Every employee is responsible for visually inspecting his/her work area. In the unfortunate event of a workplace incident resulting in injury or illness, remember to report the incident to your supervisor immediately following medical attention. Speak with your immediate supervisor to identify the safety related training you need to complete for your position.
