4 Trust Funds In 2011 USD 127 million newly mobilized for Trust Funds  USD 15 million for Single Donor Funds  USD 112 million for Thematic Funds  320 Trust Fund projects ongoing for USD 421 million (as of March 2012)

5 New Thematic Funds Established in 2011  South-South Cooperation Trust Fund Brazil  South-South Cooperation Trust Fund with Brazil (USD 6 million) approved by the Board in March 2011 --- other donors being mobilized to set up a Multi-donor Fund African Ecological Footprint Report African Ecological Footprint Report being prepared to be launched at the Bank Annual Meetings and Rio+20  Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa Denmark  Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa with Denmark (USD 57 million) approved by the Board in July 2011 --- other donors being mobilized

6 New Partners for the Bank’s Trust Funds  The Gates Foundation has newly joined the African Water Facility for USD 12 million in June 2011  Switzerland has contributed USD 20 million for the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Initiative in November 2011

7 Trust Funds Highlights 2011  Fund for African Private Sector Assistance (FAPA) technical assistance grant of USD xxx to implement Greenfield microfinance institutions in Liberia, Tanzania and Nigeria in partnership with Access Bank Group – these institutions now provide support for micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) development. Technical Assistance/ Capacity Building for inclusive development in Africa

8  Congo Basin Forest Fund grants for Capacity Building in Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) – EUR 18 million.  Fund for African Private Sector Assistance grant to the African Carbon Support Program to assist projects in regional member countries to access carbon finance – USD 910,000.  India Trust Fund grant support for the use of Private Public Partnerships for the development of West African Power Pool (WAPP) Energy Infrastructure Training held in the ECOWAS region – USD 95,000.  UK DFID grant support for Climate Change Executive Trainings held at the AfDB – GBP 175,000. Technical Assistance/Capacity Building for green growth in Africa

9 Regional Integration Strategy Papers (RISP)  Japan Trust Fund grant support for the Bank’s Regional Integration Strategy Papers (RISP). The interventions proposed in the Central African RISP aim to contribute to balanced development in the region while taking into account the sensitive nature of the Congo Basin Forest Ecosystem. Knowledge Generation/Economic and Sector Work

10 Regional Integration and Stability  Canada Trust Fund grant support for the Bank’s Flagship Study on Regional Integration and Stability in West Africa – “Infrastructure and Growth in Sierra Leone” is the first report completed to inform the country’s Public Investment Program. Knowledge Generation/ Economic and Sector Work

11 Climate Finance Partnership Climate Investment Fund (CIF) low carbon and climate resilient projects in Africa, The AfDB is an implementing agency of the Climate Investment Fund (CIF) - one of the largest fast-tracked climate financing instruments in the world (USD 6.5 billion). In line with the Bank’s strategic objectives and mandate, the CIF supports low carbon and climate resilient projects in Africa, with USD 2.5 billion of concessional finance.

12 New Institutional Partnerships Agricultural Bank of China  Partnerships MOU with the Agricultural Bank of China on co-financing in June 2011 Statistics Norway  Partnerships MOU with the Statistics Norway on statistical capacity building in September 2011 Asian Development Bank  Partnerships MOU with the Asian Development Bank on Trade Financing in May 2011

13 the World Wild Fund for Nature  Partnerships MOU with the World Wild Fund for Nature on Green Development in July 2011 African Ecological Footprint Report African Ecological Footprint Report being prepared to be launched at the Bank Annual Meetings and Rio+20  Partnerships MOU with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for Collaboration in North Africa in September 2011

14 The Way Forward  Develop and mobilize more flexible menu of instruments to meet the emerging and diversifying needs of the client regional member countries in collaboration with partners To be reflected in the Bank’s Long-term Strategy towards 2022 through consultations with the development partners

15 AfDB as a “Global Connector”  To broaden the resource base, and diversify the forms of partnerships and types of partners --- AfDB as a “Global Connector” In line with the Busan Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation Ex. South-South Cooperation, Knowledge Partnerships, Non-state partners, Africa partners
