Dormice Class have looked at the work of artist Andy Goldsworthy who uses natural materials such as brightly coloured flowers, icicles, leaves, mud, pinecones, snow, stone, twigs, and thorns. We decided to create our own works of art in the style of Andy Goldsworthy and have used natural materials we collected whilst visiting the school wildlife area. See what materials you can name as you look through our virtual gallery. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Evening Bird’s Nest This group of artists say, “The huge rock is the bird’s body, his head is made from a conker and we used a bit of chipped wood for his beak. He uses this to gobble down worms but not glow-worms! We used fiery coloured leaves to make the evening sky. Can you see the sun?” Artists: Dylan, George and Louie

The Lost Sheep The artists said, “The fluffy baby sheep has escaped out of the farm gate and the woolly mummy sheep has found it. They are standing under a tree made from colourful leaves and pine cones.” Artists: Maya, Toby and Roxy

These two artists said, “The pinecone bird has yellowy leaves for wings. She is sitting on a nest made from snappy twigs and the nest is high in a green tree. It is full of eggs which are tiny pinecones.” Artists: Bethany and Harvey

This pair of artists says, “This lion has a fluffy tail and beautiful mane made from golden leaves. He hides in the swishy grass and has a long sleep in the hot sun.” Artists: Anthony and Blake

Artists Comment: “This is a secret house surrounded by a beautiful garden. Next to the house three bushes are growing. One is full of flowers, one has red cherries on it and the third is a leafy green colour. Can you see the fluffy smoke blowing form the chimney?” Artists: Ella, Isabella and Leah

Artists Comment: “Turtleland is calm and quiet, so calm you can’t even hear the ocean. Under the bridge made of twigs is a river. The black seeds are the water and the pinecones are rocks. The swimming turtle is made out of torn up leaves.” Artists: Alfie, Bradley and Brendan.

The artists commented, “We have made pooh sticks bridge. It has a river going under it. The leaves are the water and the pinecones are pooh sticks floating along. The river bank is made from bits of bark and there is a tree growing too.” Artists: Billy and Lewis

The artists commented, “The twinkling stars are shining brightly in the night sky. Can you spot he bats made from tiny pine cones and wonderful white feathers? They are swooping low over the wooden bridge.” Artists: Elinor and Harry
