Once upon a time, Pharaoh Narmer and Queen Nefertiti had no children; they were lonely and wanted a child very much. One day when Queen Nefertiti was bathing in an oasis, a little toad said “Your greatest wish shall come true. Before the year should pass, you will bring a daughter into the world.”

Queen Nefertiti went home and told Pharaoh Narmer about what happened. Soon enough, it happened… Queen Nefertiti gave birth to a beautiful little girl. She was so beautiful her father could not control himself and threw a large feast. He invited everyone he knew in Egypt.

The Pharaoh also invited the goddesses. The pharaoh only had 12 golden plates, so he didn’t invite the strongest and fiercest one. The birthday feast was the biggest feast ever held in Egypt! It was a time of happiness and joy and when it came to an end, each goddess presented a beautiful gift to the baby.

But the twelfth goddess, Keket, strode angrily into the room, her fierce heart made a dreadful silence in the room. She wanted vengeance on the Pharaoh and queen for not inviting her. “Curse upon the princess!” she yelled. “When she is fifteen, she will fall, DEAD!!!”

Then she left. The youngest goddess said “I will soften the curse a bit. She will not die, but she will fall into a deep sleep that lasts for 100 years.” Pharaoh Narmer became ill with misery and worry. To guard his dear child, he ordered all of the camels to be put on a long break so nobody could leave the Egyptian town. Any who refuse will suffer a long, painful, poisoning from a cobra.

After a few years, the Pharaoh forgot about the curse. As years past, the child got older. Her name was Monifa. She explored the Egyptian palace as she pleased. She turned 15 and her curse spread through the entire palace….everyone was asleep.

A handsome prince found the palace dead silent. He strode in unnoticed. He saw the princess. It was love at first sight. He kissed her. It broke the curse! They fell in love and got married and everyone lived happily ever after!
