2 Foreword The world of careers is constantly changing and developing.At The Bushey Academy we are preparing our students for jobs that are yet to be created. The Academy is dedicated to giving its students an in- depth Work Related Education that will prepare them for the challenges ahead of them, both as they progress in their time here, and also after they leave. It is only by being fully prepared for the world beyond our boundaries that students can truly be 'Proud to Belong'. Mr N Fee Work Related Learning Coordinator

3 Work Related Learning Strategy The Department for Education states that all students from Year 8 should have access to Work Related Learning. At The Bushey Academy we believe in starting this process earlier, in Year 7. Work Related Learning forms an integral part of the Academy's PSHCE curriculum and is delivered in six week blocks in each year. This combines with a range of large scale events for different year groups that provide our students with consistent and meaningful Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance that will make a real difference when they leave us for pastures new.

4 Resources The Academy prides itself on offering a wide variety of Work Related Learning resources to all students. 5 Year 7 The Year 7 programme is designed to welcome students to the idea of Work Related Learning. It is made up of: An explanation of the Careers Library in the LRC A PSHCE course designed to develop: self-confidence self-confidence articulation and public speaking articulation and public speaking knowledge of the world of work through introduction and explanation of key terms and concepts knowledge of the world of work through introduction and explanation of key terms and concepts

6 Year 8 The Year 8 programme takes into account GCSE option choices being made during the Spring Term. 7 Year 9 The Year 9 programme revolves around a day of Work Shadowing undertaken in July. 8 Year 10 Building on the experience of Work Shadowing in Year 9, the Year 10 programme focuses around the world of work. It includes: Compulsory work experience for one week in the Spring Term facilitated by Hertfordshire County Council PSHCE sessions designed to help with preparations for this hands-on experience Optional visits to universities presentations on UCAS Access to one-to-one careers advice interviews on request

9 Year 11 With the impending pressure of GCSEs and choices to be made about the future, the Year 11 programme is designed to help students consider plans for post-16 education. All students will receive: PSHCE sessions dedicated to CV and personal statement writing and interview techniques One-to-one careers advice interviews with an external adviser from David Ritchie & Associates with a personalised action plan and the offer of follow up sessions One-to-one guidance meetings to discuss options for Key Stage 5 Encouragement to take the NCS Programme Mock job interviews on request

10 Year 12 In Year 12, the Academy expects students to start looking ahead to their time after compulsory education. 11 Year 13 The provision offered in Year 13 is delivered on a by request basis. 12 David Ritchie & Associates David Ritchie & Associates specialise in the field of careers education and guidance. They offer a range of services from psychometric testing to interview training. Additionally they support the Academy in its development of Work Related Learning.
