3/31/111 All-Electric Commercial Fleet Vehicles – Vans, Trucks, and Buses

3/31/112 Why All-Electric Vehicles? Reduce –fuel cost - $4/gal vs. 10 cents/kwh –$300 billion balance of payments deficit –energy security problems –excess consumption of energy efficiency -IC engine 20%, electric motor 90% –GHG emissions –criteria pollutants –maintenance expense IC engine system 1400 parts, electric motor/battery system, 200 parts No new infrastructure is required for fleet vehicles

Why Focus on Fleet Vehicles? An estimated 107 million light and medium duty vans, trucks, school buses and shuttle buses can be repowered Millions of transit buses, heavy duty trucks, tractors and similar vehicle can be repowered. Fleet vehicles are major consumers of diesel fuel and pollution and GHG emitters High mileage fleet vehicles have reduced operation and maintenance cost to offset initial incremental cost Low mileage fleet vehicles have the potential to earn supplemental income providing frequency regulation services to the grid 3/31/113

4 All-Electric Fleet Vehicles Enova - Ford F-150 Ford Transit VanFedEx Navistar VanEnova Step-in Van Proterra – 35’ and 45’ Fast Charge Transit Bus Smith Electric Truck Balqon – Drayage and Short Haul Truck

3/31/115 Diesel Fuel Consumption About 46,000,000,000 gallons/year consumed in US NY/NJ consumes about 3,000,000,000 gallons/year –Millions of people are bused to work –AT&T, Verizon, FedEx. Fresh Direct and others operate thousands of fleet vehicles –NY/NJ Port Authority airports and marine ports operate, or are served by, thousands of shuttle buses, vans, short haul heavy duty trucks and tractors –Hunts Point Food Market is served by thousands of trucks and vans –Utilities operates large fleets of maintenance vans and trucks –In Manhattan alone it is estimated that there are 100,000 freight deliveries each day

3/31/116 Urban Congestion Maximizes Diesel Fuel Consumption

3/31/117 Typical Shipping Hub - NJ

3/31/118 480,000 Vehicles in United States Average ~66 miles per day MPG = ~7 Parked 12 hours at same location Parked for 3 months Great public visibility Typical School Bus Fleet

3/31/119 School Bus Statistics Estimated number of school buses - 480.000 Average miles driven per year per bus - 12,000 Total miles driven - 5,760,000,000 Total diesel fuel consumed - 882,857.000 gallons Number of students transported - 26,000,000

Port Authority Marine Terminal 3/31/1110

Port of Los Angeles 3/31/1111

Port Vehicle Statistics Port of Los Angeles Trucks –1,200,000 trips per year –50% idle time –Have acquired 25 all-electric trucks Port Authority of NY/NJ –1,500,000 trips per year –5,300,000 hours of idle time –50,000 miles per trip 3/31/1112

Where’s the Beef Port of LA’s 25 all-electric trucks saves 500,000 gallons of diesel fuel per year Achieving the same savings would require about 150 delivery trucks, or 1,200 Leaf passenger vehicles and building a charging station infrastructure. 3/31/1113
