4 Understanding Living Trust I have a will. Why would I want a living trust? Contrary to what you’ve probably heard, a will may not be the best plan for you and your family, primarily because a will does not avoid probate when you die. Benefits of a Revocable Living Trust Avoids probate at death, including multiple probates if you own property in other states. Prevents court control of assets at incapacity Brings all your assets together under one plan Provides maximum privacy Quicker distribution of assets to beneficiaries Assets can remain in trust until you want beneficiaries to inherit Can reduce or eliminate estate taxes Inexpensive, easy to set up and maintain Can be changed or cancelled at any time Prevents court control Attend the Estate Planning Workshop “Learn the Basics of Estate Planning” on November 7, 2009

6 Child Guardianship You’ll hopefully never need it, but it’s essential to plan for your children’s welfare should you and/or your spouse die. Create documents that name a Christian guardian for your children. Even after 18 years old, it is still important to designate someone that can help provide Godly counsel, wisdom, and prayer. Create a Will through an attorney. Choose a guardian you trust. Stewardship Ministries can provide your family with the necessary estate planning documents, giving you the assurance your children will be placed in the hands of those individuals who you feel will best care for their spiritual beliefs and financial security.
