Divide Rational Numbers Without models

How many groups of 0.3 are in 0.6? This problem is equivalent to 0.6 ÷ 0.3. You can use a grid to model this division by circling groups of 0.3 and counting the number of groups. There are 2 groups of 0.3 in 0.6, so 0.6 ÷ 0.3 = 2. Previously on Dividing Fractions

When you divide two numbers, you can multiply both numbers by the same power of ten without changing the final answer. Multiply both 0.6 and 0.3 by 10: 0.6 · 10 = 6and0.3 · 10 = 3 0.6 ÷ 0.3 = 2 and6 ÷ 3 = 2 By multiplying both powers by the same power of ten, you can make the divisor an integer. Dividing by an integer is much easier than dividing by a decimal.

Divide. Insert Lesson Title Here 6.45 ÷ 0.5 ) 64.5 5 1 5 – 14 –10 6.45 ÷ 0.5 2 4 5. 9 –4 5 0 Multiply both numbers by 10 to make the divisor an integer. Divide as with whole numbers. = 64.5 ÷ 5

Divide. Estimate to check whether each answer is reasonable. 4 ÷ 1.25 4.00 ÷ 1.25 = 400 ÷ 125 Multiply both numbers by 100. ) 125 400.0.0 Use zero as a placeholder. 3 –375 25 0 –25 0 0 Divide as with whole numbers. Estimate4 ÷ 1 = 4 The answer is reasonable.. 2

Lets take what we know of decimals and apply it to fractions 0.6 ÷ 0.3 = 2. 06/10 ÷ 3/10 = 2. 3 5 3 10 ÷ = 1 1/2 How many halves are in one whole? 2 This process is very confusing so mathematicians came up with RECIPROCALS. You could put all fractions into decimals, but not all fractions become nice decimals and the problem will be harder

Reciprocals can help you divide by fractions. Two numbers are reciprocals if their product is 1. The reciprocal of is because 1/3 1313 · 3 = 1313 · 3131 = 3333 = 1. To divide by a fraction, find its reciprocal and then multiply. 2 ÷ 1313 = 2 · 3 = 6 3

Divide. Write each answer in simplest form. A. 3737 ÷ 2525 3737 ÷ 2525 = 3737 · 5252 = 3737 · 5 · 2 = 15 14 or 1 14 1 Multiply by the reciprocal of. 2525 B. 3838 ÷ 12 3838 ÷ = 3838 · 1 = 3838 · 1 1 4 = Multiply by the reciprocal of 12. 1 32 Simplify.

Divide. Write each answer in simplest form. A. 3535 ÷ 1212 3535 ÷ 1212 = 3535 · 2121 = 3535 · 2 · 1 = 6565 or 1 5 1 Multiply by the reciprocal of. 1212 B. 3434 ÷ 3 3434 ÷ 3 = 3434 · 1 3 = 3434 · 1 3 1 1 = Multiply by the reciprocal of 3. 1 4 Simplify.
