1 Teaching in Medical Education (TiME) Faculty Fellows Program Developing faculty as teachers and scholars Teresa J. (Terry) Carter,EdD VCU School of Medicine

2 Goals for the Program Promote leadership in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) Foster the development of a cadre of academic leaders who can model best practices in teaching within undergraduate, clinical, and graduate programs Enhance depth and breadth of faculty expertise to support teaching and learning

3 How the Program Works TiME offers 8, two-credit graduate courses through SOE Courses are all taught in the McGlothlin Medical Education Center, 5:15-7:45 pm, one day a week for a 12-week semester Full-time, VCU-paid faculty can enroll as “non-degree” seeking students for up to 6 credit hours (3 courses) with tuition waivers Those who wish to earn the Post-Baccalaureate Graduate Certificate in Medical Education enroll in the certificate program The graduate certificate can be earned upon completion of 6 courses, four that are required and two electives

4 Courses in the TiME Program Required to earn the Certificate Instructional Strategies Curriculum Design Adult Learning Theory and Practice Teaching as Scholarship Electives (Choose two) Performance Feedback and Simulation Group and Team Facilitation Using Digital Media in Teaching Reflective Practice

5 Key Features A faculty development program –enrollment processed by the SOM each semester Class size limited to 20, “hands-on” small group learning experience Developed for SOM faculty in 2012-2013, with plans to extend enrollment to interested MCV faculty when possible Two courses offered Spring and Fall (12 weeks), one in the summer (8-weeks)
