2 Objectives  Conceptualize the evaluation process as an ongoing task from the agency field instructor  Prepare a written evaluation of a student’s progress using appropriate forms provided by the School of Social Work  Provide effective feedback and documentation in reviewing the student’s progress  Articulate strategies for working with challenging students 2

3 Evaluation of Student  Evaluation is a process involving the student, agency field instructor and task supervisor (if appropriate)  Review all evaluation forms with students, preferably at the beginning of the semester  Evaluation of both strengths and areas of improvement  Focus on documentable, specific behaviors 3

4 Evaluation of Student  Formal evaluation at the end of each semester  Evaluation results are tied back to the core competencies and practice behaviors  Recognizes students’ professional development over time  There should be no surprises, feedback should be given on going throughout placement Jan. 16, 20154

5 Evaluation Form Rating scale is designed to help agency field instructors rate and articulate how well students are developing skills under each core competency Rating Scale ranges from 1-5 5 - Intern has excelled in this area 4 - Intern is functioning above expectations for interns in this area 3 - Intern has met the expectations for interns in this area 2 - Intern has not yet met the expectations in this area; but gives indication of doing so in the near future 1 - Intern has not met the expectations in this area; and does not give indication of doing so in the near future Jan. 16, 20155
