15. Object of Rotary 15Rotary Year 2013-2014 Engage Rotary Change Lives To encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise. This ideal of service is fostered through: 1. the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; 2. high ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupation and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; 3. the application of the ideal of service in one’s personal, business and community life; and 4. the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

17. The Four-Way Test 17Rotary Year 2013-2014 Engage Rotary Change Lives Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor, 1923 took over a failing Aluminum Company. Created a 24 word code of ethics. Taylor became RI President 1954-55. Adopted by RI in 1943. Translated into more than 100 languages. Of the things we think, say or do: 1.Is it the TRUTH? 2.Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3.Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4.Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

It composes of 19 members.  Its members include the RI President, president- elect, vice president, treasurer, and the general secretary. 22. 22Rotary Year 2013-2014 Engage Rotary Change Lives  Rotary Zones  Rotary International's Board of Directors is elected by Rotary's 34 zones (with over 550 clubs). Klumph proposed that an endowment be set up “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” In 1928, when the endowment fund had grown to more than US$5,000, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation, and it became a distinct entity within Rotary International. 26. 26Rotary Year 2013-2014 Engage Rotary Change Lives  The Rotary Foundation Board of Trustees, and the executive staff of the Secretariat. The Rotary Foundation Board of Trustees is responsible for managing the business of the Foundation. There shall be 15 trustees, each nominated by the president-elect and elected by the RI Board.  Its members include the chair, chair-elect, vice chair, and the Rotary general secretary. Trustees are appointed to 4- year term by the RI President, with approval from the RI Board of Directors. Introduction of The Rotary Foundation

27. 27Rotary Year 2013-2014 Engage Rotary Change Lives  The first club in our district Rotary Club of Hong Kong was chartered in 1931.  Rotary International decided to constitute the clubs in Hongkong – Macau - Taiwan area under District 345, effective as from 1st July 1960 when we had altogether 17 clubs with 764 Rotarians. 28. 28Rotary Year 2013-2014 Engage Rotary Change Lives  Due to the rapid growth, the number of Rotary clubs mushroomed to 101 in District 345 (Hong Kong-Macau-Northern Taiwan) during the Rotary Year 1986/87. History of District 3450

29. 29Rotary Year 2013-2014 Engage Rotary Change Lives It was just impossible for a district governor to oversee all these clubs, hence a new district was born, known as District 348 (Northern Taiwan) whereas District 345 remained unchanged, except the area covers only Hong Kong-Macau with a total of 27 clubs as from 1st July 1987. 30. 30Rotary Year 2013-2014 Engage Rotary Change Lives In January 1995, the first club in Mongolia, Rotary Club of Ulaanbaatar was chartered. Since then, the membership has grown steadily. From 1st July 2007, Rotary International approved to include Mongolia to be part of District 3450. From August 2013, RI approved to include Guangzhoug Province to District 3450.
