2. H OW DO YOU GET DIABETES ? Diabetes is the increase of the blood sugar level. High blood sugar is known as hyperglycemia. Its controlled by the hormone insulin. Diabetes happens in the digestive system in the organ called the pancreas. The cells start to stop responding to the insulin, which means the door which allows glucose to enter won’t open. The amount of glucose lets the blood level to go higher and higher. If there is too much insulin in the blood or too little of glucose in the cell, the pancreas will continue to produce insulin until the glucose level goes down.
