The Christian Life Our Goal {181} We want to look at both aspects of our faith: doctrine and experience. Not only to understand these themes better but also to have been enriched as far as Christian experience is concerned. One focus: the One in whom “we live, and move, and have our being.”

The Christian Life Lesson 4, April 25 The Christian Life Lesson 4, April 25

Life Key Text John 10:10 NIV “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” “… more abundantly.” NKJV

Life Initial Words {222} Sometimes doctors perform all kinds of heroic actions to artificially keep a person alive even if the person has very little, if any, quality of life left. But quality of life is not restricted to an acceptable level of physical well-being. Do we live in satisfying relationships with fellow human beings and with our Creator?

Life Quick Look 1. The Gift of Life (John 1:1-4) 2. An Abundant Life (John 10:10) 3. A New Life in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Life 1. The Gift of Life John 1:1-4 NIV “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men.”

1.The Gift of Life Gift of Physical Life {223} How did life originate? Those who believe in God as the Creator of this world and of all the universe do not have all the answers. But the creationist approach is far more logical and coherent than the improbable theory that human life resulted from chance.

1.The Gift of Life Gift of Physical Life {223} What is true for the mystery of life in general is also true for each human life. It is a fundamental Christian conviction that life—and human life in a very special sense— is sacred. We owe our physical life to Him, all of it— from beginning to end.

Life 2. An Abundant Life John 10:10 NLT “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich satisfying life.”

2. An Abundant Life Fullness of Life {231} “Life to the full” is not a combination of good health, good looks, satisfactory education, and a nice income. And although strong, loving relationships are part of it, there is considerably more than these things. Life “to the full” is the kind of life that has meaning. Its happiness does not depend primarily on external, material circumstances.

2. An Abundant Life Fullness of Life {231} It is a life that is connected to the Source of life and will, therefore, be eternal. It is a life full of possibilities, with a purpose, of inner peace, with a mission.

2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” Life 3. A New Life in Christ

Spiritual Life {227} Sin has brought decay and death. The good news is that we have a choice as whether this life is all we have or whether we will accept the wonderful gift of eternal life. This eternal life demands a turning around, a conversion. This turning around from a life of self-service to a life of commitment to the kingdom, will be characterized by growth.

3. A New Life in Christ Physical Education {225} The way we treat our body has everything to do with stewardship. But the care for our body also is intimately related to the biblical view of the human person. The Bible depicts humanity as a unity of body, soul, and spirit, which cannot be separated. Our religion does not concern just an immortal “something” but our entire being. It impacts all aspects of our existence.

3. A New Life in Christ Social Life {229} Living in relationships is the essence of human life. The Bible underlines the value of genuine friendship and the blessings of belonging to a wider community. Associating with others who have adopted a biblical lifestyle will help us remain faithful. But if we have no friends outside the circle of fellow believers, we will have few opportunities for witnessing.

Life Final Words {233} “A life in Christ is a life of restfulness. There may be no ecstasy of feeling, but there should be an abiding, peaceful trust. Your hope is not in yourself; it is in Christ. … So you are not to look to yourself, … but look to Christ. Let the mind dwell upon His love, upon the beauty, the perfection, of His character.” Steps to Christ 70.
