The Holy Koran (Qur’an) It contains the exact words revealed by Allah through the Angel Gabriel to Muhammad. Scribes wrote down these words. Not one word of its 114 chapters has been changed over the centuries. It is written in Arabic. News that matter. 19 October 2012.

Muhammad Born in Mecca (located in Saudi Arabia and considered the holiest city of Islam) around 570 AD. He is considered the messenger or prophet of Allah. This is a 1595 illustrated edition of the Siyer-I Nebi. It is located in the Topkaipi Palace Museum, Istanbul, Turkey. Why is Muhammad’s face covered in this picture? "Mohammed Image Archive." 4 Islam Beliefs There are approximately 1,500,000,000 followers today. Their deity is Allah. He is considered the one and true God with no partner or equal. One common misconception is that Allah is a different God from that of the Judeo-Christian tradition. He has a different name, but he is the same God. One of the unifying characteristics of Islam is the Five Pillars: testimony of faith, prayer, giving, fasting, and the hajj (a pilgrimage to Mecca).

The Doctrine of Islam Muslims summarize their doctrine in six articles of faith: 1. Belief in one Allah 2. Belief in the angels 3. Belief in the prophets 4. Belief in the revelations of Allah: Muslims accept certain portions of the Bible, such as the Torah and the Gospels. They believe the Qur'an is the preexistent, perfect word of Allah. 5. Belief in the last day of judgment and the hereafter: Everyone will be resurrected for judgment into either paradise or hell. 6. Belief in predestination: Muslims believe Allah has decreed everything that will happen. Muslims testify to Allah’s sovereignty with their frequent phrase, inshallah, meaning, “if God wills.” "What is Islam and What Do Muslims Believe?" gotquestions?org. 2013.

Sayings of Saadi Translated by Idries Shah

“Daylight” or Sura 93 Translated by N. J. Dawood

Comparison/Contrast Essay Focus on their similarities, differences, themes (topic), mood (overall feeling), tone (author’s attitude toward the subject), language (e.g. pronoun use), and/or prejudices. You only need to reference The Holy Bible and The Holy Koran once in your essay. After, refer to the pieces as Psalm 23 and Sura 93 or “Daylight.” If you refer to the piece as Sura 93, do not refer to it later in your essay as “Daylight.” Choose a title and stick with it.

Lines: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside still waters." (Ps. 23.1-3) o The "Ps." is the MLA standard abbreviation for the book of Psalms in the Bible. o "23" Means that this is the 23rd Psalm in the book. This number will also indicate chapter numbers in other biblical books. o The numbers after the period are the verse numbers. o When you quote from The Holy Bible, you DO NOT need to put a slash (/) to separate verse lines. "MLA Style: Bible.” Henry Buhl Library. 31 October 2013.
