1 Integers: Multiplication & Division
Lesson 1b

2 Multiplication of Integers
When you multiply two or more numbers the result is called the product. There are two rules that you must know when multiplying integers: When multiplying two numbers with the same sign, the product is positive. When multiplying two numbers with different signs, the product is negative.

3 Multiplication of Integers
When multiplying two numbers with the same sign, the product is positive. When multiplying two numbers with different signs, the product is negative. The following examples apply to rule #1: 3(6) = 18 -3(-6) = 18 The following examples apply to rule #2: 3(-6) = -18 -3(6) = -18

5 Summary of Multiplication
When multiplying two numbers with the same sign, the product is positive. When multiplying two numbers with different signs, the product is negative. A positive number multiplied by a positive number is positive. A negative number multiplied by a negative number is positive. A positive number multiplied by a negative number is negative.

6 Division of Integers When you divide two or more numbers the result is called the quotient. There are two rules that you must know when dividing integers: When dividing two numbers with the same sign, the quotient is positive. When dividing two numbers with different signs, the quotient is negative.

7 Division of Integers When dividing two numbers with the same sign, the quotient is positive. When dividing two numbers with different signs, the quotient is negative. The following examples apply to rule #1: The following examples apply to rule #2:
