3 DAY 1 – DAY 3 Zero to Hero Blogging Project

4 Introduction/How It Works The “Zero to Hero” blogging project is hosted by WordPress.com The blog you set up for this project is an educational/academic blog.  If you feel you want to create a personal blog and apply the steps we use for your academic one to make your own better, you are more than welcome to. Yes there are guidelines  If you can’t say it in front of your grandma, then you can’t say it on your blog (unless it’s your personal blog then feel free to). Yes you will be graded  The people you will be paired in groups with may or may not be from your class Any other questions?

5 Day 1s Introduce your blog the way you introduce yourself to a new person.  What are you about?  Why are you here?  Who do you hope to connect with (besides your classmates)?  What topics are you most interested in?  What would you like to explore outside of this class?

6 Titles and Taglines and Widgets Why have a good title? BBecause boring titles mean boring context Why make your tagline catchy? BBecause you want people to know they can expect great things from your blog What’s a widget? AA widget adds content and other features to your sidebar. In WordPress, some of the automatic ones include tags, categories and about which we will explore later.

8 Unit 1: Human Computer Interactions Overview Overview List: 1. Explore the concepts of computer and computing. 2. “Demystify” and learn the function of the parts of a personal computer. Learn the terminology of hardware components necessary for the purchase of a home computer. 3. Explore the world wide web and search engines. Experiment with a variety of search techniques, internet resources, and Web 2.0, applications. Evaluate websites. 4. Examine the implications of data on society and how computers are used for communications. 5. Tell a story with data. 6. Explore how computers are used as a tool for visualizing data, modeling and design, and art in the context of culturally situated design tools. 7. Introduce the concept of a computer program as a set of instructions. 8. Explore the idea of intelligence—especially as it relates to computers. Explore what it means for a machine to “learn”. Discuss whether computers are intelligent or whether they only behave intelligently.

12 Blog Post 1 Think about your daily activity and log how much time you spend computing in a day. How much of your environment is made up of computers? Share thoughts and at least 3 examples. 300-500 words

13 Computer Buying Activity Each student will interview a family member or friend to find out what features that person would like to have if they were buying a new personal computer. Computer Buying Interview process:  What will be the uses of the computer?  What are the space constraints?  What is the price range?
