2 Introduction In this presentation you will learn a lot about football. You will learn all about it’s origin about how it started and about the different ways it’s played in different countries around the world.

3 The Origin of Football A form of football was played a long time ago by the Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Ancient Greek, Persian and Viking as well as many other places. The Chinese played "football"  games about 3000 years ago which is a pretty long time. The Ancient Greeks and the Roman used football  games to sharpen warriors for battle. Though different forms of the game were played all around the world long ago it wasn’t until 1863 in England when soccer or football really began to take shape and that happened when the football associations of football and rugby split off and an called the Football Association was formed.

4 Football’s First Organized Set of Rules
Long ago different people played football differently; especially before football and rugby were split. In 1862 Cobb Morley formed a semi-professional soccer club called the Barnes Club. He saw that the game needed more organization in order to be played properly so he suggested creating a governing body for football. On October 26, 1863 Morley's idea was put practice, several founding members of football clubs all around London met and developed the Football Association. Not only did Cobb Marley create the Football Association but he also came up with the Laws of the Game which are of great importance in the history of football because it was the document that held all the official rules of how football was played properly. The rules suggested by Cobb Morley were accepted by the Football Association on December 8, 1863 and it still remains as the games constitution although some minor modifications have been made.

5 Countries That Play Football As Their National Sport
In over 60 nations football is considered the national sport; It is the national sport of most European and Latin-American countries. Some other countries are Brazil, Italy, France, Argentina and many more. So as you can see football is very popular around the world. Millions of people in more than 140 countries play football. So, even in countries where football is not the national sport the game is widely known and popular.

6 Why is Football So Popular?
The main reason for the popularity of football is the creativity that is allowed within the sport. That creativity is what makes the people get excited about watching football or playing it because of all the talents and skills that they get to witness or experience. And so, because football has plenty of room for creativity where the player can use his mind and body to do anything in order to take hold of the ball, or score or keep the other team from the ball and the different things that the players do in order to achieve these things can be very entertaining for the audience. Now, click the link below in order to see some examples of creativity, talent and skills: Astonishing Football Talent

7 Another reason is that the equipment needed for football is not very expensive so people all around the world can play football whether they are poor or rich because all they need is a ball and an empty playground to play. This obviously is an important point because not everyone can play basketball because you need hoops, not everyone can play hockey because you need an ice rink, pucks etc. Basically it’s popular due to it’s simplicity yet creativity all at the same time. The last reason why football is so popular is because the games always keep you so thrilled and anticipated because you never know what’s coming. In those minutes of the game anything can happen and the game can flip upside down. One team could be losing badly and in the last 10 minutes they can make it up. Basically the thrill of never knowing what’s going to happen always keeps you anticipated; in my opinion football is like a thriller movie always surprising you and providing you with the unexpected.

8 The Different Styles of Football and the Way it is Played Around the World
In my opinion there are definitely different styles of playing football and it all depends on the team or country. Each country develops it’s own unique style of playing that suits the characteristic properties of the players. For example take a look at these information that I got from the website The British: Players: physical, quick, direct Characteristics: The no-nonsense British style incorporates a lot of traditional values that have been present in England ever since the emergence of sport. Attacks are set up quickly with few touches on the ball. Passes are direct, often sent over the enemy defense. This fast-pace mentality often leads to fierce fighting over balls. Crosses are served in from any available position. The Italian: Players: skillful, cunning, cautious Characteristics: Italian teams are very cautious about the number of players they are committing forward. Players use a variety of skills and rapid tempo changes in the buildup process. They make forward runs at all angles which is unpredictable and difficult to contain. Defenders prefer to slow the tempo down, shield and play the ball back. They like to saturate their own half and shut down their opposition.

9 The Northern: Players: aggressive, fast, organized Characteristics: The game is played in a very direct way with forceful although predictable attacks. In defense, a definite shape is always preserved. Players have very specific roles within their team and rarely improvise. Northern teams, such as Germany or Sweden, either keep possession or attack by hammering straight at the enemy defense. There is no in between. The Latin: Players: confident with the ball, good dribblers, creative Characteristics: The Latin game is very distinctive because of its possession-oriented character. Attempts on goal arise through the use of possession. The ball is moved spontaneously, with a lot of individual-based plays. Latin teams from Spain, Portugal, Brazil and Argentina are typical examples. Brazil takes it to the extreme with their improvisational and free-flowing play. As you saw earlier from the resource we found each country forms a style according to their players and as we saw the characteristics of the players in different areas varied and with that so did the styles.
