My Professional Development Plan By: Khalila Hunte

Skills Audit Performing: I rated myself a 9 in preforming because I have plenty experience in that area, from singing at NCFA to singing in trinity examinations in front of several people. From this experience I have gotten 2 golds and a silver for NCFA so far and plan to get more. I also have merits and a pass for my trinity examinations from initial to grade 4 and I also plan to get a distinction in the future.

Understanding of music theory: I rated myself a 6 in this area because I have little experience in theory only touching on it a little when exams come around. I do take music lessons and know some of the basics but am still learning and understanding more of the standard theory. Compostion and arranging skills: I rated myself a 7 because I have some expirience and am good at arranging music. I also wrote a song, made up some progressions on the piano and done a couple remixes to other songs in audio club but I only know some of the basics.

Sequencing: I rated myself a 5 in this area because I don’t have a lot of experience in sequencing. I have only sequenced basic piano patterns. Recording: I rated myself a 8 in this area because I have somewhat of experience in recording. I have recorded songs in quartets, trios and by myself. I also know the basic skills of recording a song and working the devices used for it.

Technical skills: I rated myself a 5 because I don’t have much experience in this area. I have operated a mixing desk and laptop in audio club while recording songs and other mixes. Personal and work skills: I rated myself a 9 because I’m very good at working in a team and have performed with other people as a part of group work and performances in different places. I also have great organization skills

My Goals

Performing Short Term: Completing my trinity vocal music exam and passing with a distinction. I will be completing this Grade 4 Vocal exam in December 2014. I am studing with my vocal teacher Mrs Bodden. The piece’s that I will be singing for the exam are:  Nel cor piu no mi cento  Colors of the wind  I feel pretty Long Term: Improve on my vocal range by practicing a new song and doing vocal exercises. My hope is that I will be able to sing as high as “I dreamed a dream” and as low as “Colors of the wind” and be able to pull it off. I will perform one of these songs for NCFA in 2015.

Musical Knowledge Short Term: Expanding my knowledge of different styles and genres in music by researching styles like reggae, soca or pop and making a list of those song types, and make a playlist by December 15 th 2014. Long Term: To be able to understand music better and actually get a deeper knowledge of music and its styles. I can do this by also researching and making a list of genres like R&B or pop music and performing them on my Dj set in the upcoming months. This will be completed by March.
