2 Aim: Participants are fully aware of the purpose of the Code of Conduct and the behaviours and responsibilities expected of them as employees of Save the Children.

3 Learning Objectives By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: Describe their responsibilities under the Code of Conduct Link the global policies to the Code of Conduct Recognise and judge behaviour that are in breach of the Code of Conduct Report breaches of the Code of Conduct Explain the Code of Conduct to partners/volunteers that Save the Children work with

4 Definitions – Code of Conduct
Definition 1*: A Code of conduct is a set of rules outlining the responsibilities of or proper practices for an individual or organisation. Related concepts include ethical codes and honour codes. Definition 2**: Principles, values, standards, or rules of behavior that guide the decisions, procedures and systems of an organization in a way that (a) contributes to the welfare of its key stakeholders, and (b) respects the rights of all constituents affected by its operations." * **The International Federation of Accountants, International Good Practice Guidance, Defining and Developing an Effective Code of Conduct for Organizations, (2007)

5 Key elements of the Code of Conduct
Introductory statement Respect for others Protection of children Personal and professional conduct Protection of self & others Protection of assets & resources Reporting incidents & concerns

6 Scenario You notice your friend is being teased by a group of staff members. It has been going on for a while and your friend is becoming withdrawn and seems to have lost her confidence. There is one male member of the group who keeps on touching your colleague, on her arms, lower back and knees, and making jokes full of sexual innuendo. He doesn’t seem to notice how uncomfortable his behaviour is making your colleague. One day, you find your colleague very upset outside the office, she will not tell you what is the matter. Inside the male member of staff is laughing out loud and keeps on saying how ‘easy’ (slutty) your friend is. What do you do? Is this a breach of the Code of Conduct? Are there any consequences be for the staff members involved?

I can list all the global policies I can tell the difference between the Child Safeguarding Code of Conduct and the Code of Conduct I can link the sections from the Code of Conduct to the relevant global policies I know and can act in line with my responsibility to report breaches of the Code of Conduct I can report an incident/suspected incident using the Whistle-blowing policy
