Coastal Plains Climate and Land Characteristics ●Temperatures are mild, with hot summers and cool winters with few hard freezes. ●Precipitation is high, particularly along the coast, and seasonal. ●Have low elevation and low relief and lie along the shore or sea coast while interior plains are surrounded by other land and have different elevations. ●CP are separated from the rest of the interior by nearby landforms, such as mountains. ●Coastal plains can form in two basic ways: o Some start as a flat piece of land located below sea level and o also develop when river currents carry rock, soil and other sedimentary material into the ocean.
