Migration of UM-enabled mailboxes is supported. However, unless rich coexistence between on-prem and Online organizations is used, at a minimum the UM PIN will be reset when the mailbox is moved. There will be some on-prem configuration required to ensure that call forwarding to voice mail goes to UM Online, but voice mail downtime should be minimal.

That’s really a question for the other unified messaging vendor. Current versions of these products won’t work directly with Exchange Online mailboxes. However, you may be able to use SMTP to forward voice messages (created on-prem) to the appropriate cloud mailboxes, with an inferior user experience.

Yes, if you buy the correct Office 365 Enterprise Plan, and the PBX is supported by Exchange UM. It’s even possible to use a single Exchange Online mailbox to take voice mail for a user who uses Lync, but also has an old-style PBX phone.

Yes. Although there is no explicit mention of geographical regions in the UM Online host names, the DNS resolution of these names is sensitive to the requesting IP address and will direct all traffic to the appropriate region.

We’re testing these scenarios at the moment. In principle, both on-premises and hosted fax services should work with Exchange Online UM, if they are interoperable with UM on- prem. Full details will be published when testing is complete.
