www.hecogear.com Distributor Training Session – Planetary Speed Reducers

www.hecogear.com Torque vs. Speed  Torque Multiplied  Speed Reduced

www.hecogear.com Chain & Sprocket Reduction  Advantages –Single Reduction is Common Low Cost –Common Components  Disadvantages –Safety Concerns –Maintenance –Life Span –Space Requirements

www.hecogear.com Offset Gear Reducer Single & Multiple Reduction High Ratios Available Advantages Through Shaft Mount Readily Available Low Cost Disadvantages Not in Line Reversal of Rotation High Shaft Bearing Loads Relatively Low Efficiency

www.hecogear.com Worm Gear Reducer High Ratios Advantages –Self-Locking –Small Size Disadvantages –Very Low Efficiency –Self-Locking

www.hecogear.com AC Variable Speed Drive  Inverter  Vector  Servo  Advantages –Price, no power unit  Disadvantages –Hazardous Environments –Washdown Environment –Bearing Loads

www.hecogear.com Planetary Gear Reducer Single, Multiple, and Compound Reduction High Ratios Available Advantages –High Efficiency –Output Rotation Same as Input Rotation –Readily Available –Low Cost per in.lb Torque –Compact Size –High Shaft Bearing Loads –Balanced Design Disadvantages –Through Shaft Not Available

www.hecogear.com Reasons to Sell Reducers  Profitable –Selling reducers is profitable  Sell the Complete System –When you work on the design and specifications, why let someone else sell the reducer.  Reducers Help Solve Application Problems –The use of the HECO reducer can solve application problems such a cogging, side load, high torque requirements, and space limitations  Offer Customers a Single Product Source –If your customer has to look to someone else to supply products, you open the door to competition.

www.hecogear.com Model 20D Double Reduction

www.hecogear.com Model 50 Single Reduction

www.hecogear.com Model 50D Double Reduction

www.hecogear.com Model 52D Double Reduction

www.hecogear.com Model 52T Triple Reduction

www.hecogear.com LSHT Hydraulic Motor Input  Low Speed – High Torque (LSHT)  Single Stage Reduction and LSHT Motor Delivers Efficient Low Speed – High Torque Output  Wide Variety of Motor Displacements and Efficiencies to Suit Application  Low Motor Cost  Bearingless Motors Available

www.hecogear.com LSHT Hydraulic Motor Example 2000 Series Eaton Motor (in 3 /rev) Model 16 Reducer Equivalent Motor Size (in 3 /rev) Torque (in.lbs) Pressure (psi) 4.9 times 5.2:1 ratio 25.410,5863000 6.232.213,5773000 8.041.617,7203000 9.649.920,9423000 11.961.924,8543000 14.977.522,0932000 18.797.226,6952000 24.0124.827,4391750

www.hecogear.com LSHT Motor vs. High Speed Motor LSHT Motor –Single Reduction –Low Speed, Single Reduction Keeps Heat Low and Efficiency High –LSHT Motors are Usually Low Cost –Single Reduction and LSHT Motor Equals Efficiency of High Speed Motor with Double Reduction High Speed Motor –Multiple Reduction –High Speeds and Complex Gearing Develop More Heat and Efficiency Loss through Multiple Reductions –High Speed Motors are Usually Expensive –High Speed Motor is More Efficient, Double Reduction Reduces Efficiency

www.hecogear.com Heco’s Primary Competition HECO with Hydraulic Motor –Inherently Variable Speed –Small Package at Point of Use –Control of Acceleration to Maximize Component Life and Minimize Horsepower –Can be Used in Hostile Environments with No Special Precautions Electric Motor Gearbox –Complex and Expensive Speed Variation –Large Total Package Size at Point of Use –Electric Motor Requires High Horsepower to go from Zero to Full RPM in a Short Time –Special Motor Required for Wet or Explosive Environments

www.hecogear.com Cost Comparison Model 16 with Bearingless Motor vs 10,000 Series Eaton

www.hecogear.com Electronics – RE Magnetic Pickups

www.hecogear.com Electronics - Features & Benefits  Enclosed Pick-up Point –Eliminates false signals and clogged signal points  Integral Mounting –Eliminates the need for belt drives and sprockets  Self Powered –Eliminates the need to run power to tach generation in many applications  Signal Amplifier Available –Amplifier available for low speed or high resolution applications  Adjustable Time Base –Allows direct readout in units of customers choosing

www.hecogear.com Electronics – Application Ideas  RPM Measurement  RPM Control and Feedback  Product Counting with Data Acquisition  Acceleration and Deceleration Ramp Control with Feedback  Verification of Operation

www.hecogear.com Lubrication Instructions  Unit must be filled with proper type and amount of lubrication before startup  Fill to ½ capacity for horizontal operation  Maximum oil temperature – 140 o F continuous, 170 o F intermittent SingleDouble RPM Out AGMAISOSAE 0-250-40522090 25-100310080W 100-20040-8014675W 200+80+consult

www.hecogear.com Sizing a Motor and Gear Reducer  Determine: –Required Torque –Required Output Speed –Available System Pressure Example: –33,000 in.lb. Output torque –40 RPM output –2,500 PSI available

www.hecogear.com Sizing a Motor and Gear Reducer  Calculate Total Displacement –Total Displacement = (torque * 2 pi) / pressure –Total Displacement = (33,000 * 6.28) / 2500 –Total Displacement = 82.9 in3/Rev.

www.hecogear.com Sizing a Motor and Gear Reducer  Calculate Flow Required –Flow = (In3/Rev * Rev/Min) / In3/Gal –Flow = (82.9 * 40) / 231 –Flow = 14.35 Gal Theoretical –Assume 85% Volumetric Efficiency 14.35 /.85 = 16.88 Gal

www.hecogear.com Sizing a Motor and Gear Reducer  Select Motor –Total Displacement / Gear Ratio = Motor Displacement –82.9 / 4.8 = 17.27 in3/Rev –82.9 / 6 = 13.82 in3/Rev –82.9 / 24.96 = 3.32 in3/Rev –82.9 / 31.2 = 2.66 in3/Rev

www.hecogear.com Sizing a Motor and Gear Reducer  Select Motor –Assume 90% mechanical efficiency of the motor and gear box combination and the displacements would become: –17.27 = 19.2 –13.82 = 15.35 –3.32 = 3.69 –2.66 = 2.95

www.hecogear.com Sizing a Motor and Gear Reducer  Single or Double Reduction –40 RPM * 24.98:1 or 31.2:1 would result in motor speeds at or in excess of 1,000 RPM – beyond the range of most LSHT motors and at the low efficiency end of the high speed motor range. –40 RPM * 4.8:1 or 6:1 would require motor speeds of 240 RPM and 192 RPM respectively which is in the best operating range of most LSHT Gerotor type motors

www.hecogear.com Sizing a Motor and Gear Reducer  Sizing Summary –Select a Model 20 Single Reduction –with a 6:1 Ratio –and use a 19 in3/Rev (approx.) LSHT motor –that is rated for 17 GPM –and 2500 PSI.
