2 Overview of Locknetics Used in the Vanderbilt Engineering school to ensure secure access to facilities in Featheringill and Jacobs Hall Features: – Records 1000 door events – Low power, runs off AA batteries – 6/12 Button Keypad – Emergency access key – Based on heavy duty Schlage Lock

5 Internal Lock Structure - Card swipe connects to the keypad - Keypad circuit connects to lock circuit inside back of lock

9 Hardware Requirements Host Computer – Shall process changes and stores database of access rules – Shall have standard keyboard, monitor, etc. Card Reader – Shall acquire user information from cards for use to update database on host computer Palmtop Device – Shall store updated database while going from lock to lock Transmission Medium from Host Computer to Palmtop – Shall send updated card access rules from the Host Computer to the Palmtop Device Lock Interfacing Module – Shall accept new data and places it in the lock Transmission Medium from Palmtop Device to Lock Interfacing Module – Shall send the updated card access rules from the Palmtop Device to the Lock Interfacing Module

10 Software Requirements Operating System for Host Computer – Shall enable control of the host computer Database Program – Shall store and organize the card access rule for each lock – Shall keep an inventory of all the users that have access to locks Palmtop Synchronization Software – Shall synchronize the database on the Palmtop Device with the database on the Host Computer – Shall package and send data to the IO Ports on the computer Palmtop Operating System – Shall enable control of the Palmtop Device Palmtop Database Software – Shall organize and store the card access rules on the palmtop device Lock Synchronization Software – Shall package and send information to IO ports of the Palmtop device intended for the lock

16 Circuit Schematic and Simulation Output of CIP module uses 5V – 0V voltage levels These Voltage Levels are common among digital electronics Close to 5V when data is being sent to lock. Close to 0V when not data being sent to lock As predicted by simulation, voltage levels were between 0V and 5V
