4 Business Department Other Facts l 19 full-time and 35-40 adjunct instructors l 10 computer labs, 2 design labs, “Our Place” lab & 3-4 classrooms l CIS serves almost 2,000 students per year. l ACC, BUS and ECO are also popular electives for College Transfer and other Voc/Tech programs.

5 Business Department Planning l Within the Business Department, planning is an on-going dialog rather than a one time event. l Each lead instructor prepares unit plan and discusses with department chair and other affected planning units. l Plan is then entered into SPOL.

6 Business Department Major Initiatives 2001-02 Plan and execute move to North Campus. Study initiation of International Business, E-commerce and other concentrations. Continue expanding Internet offerings. Convert CIS instruction to Windows and Office 2000. Strengthen Co-op Program. Assist in revising Request for Proficiency process.

8 Allied Health Department Other Facts l Programs in Allied Health typically have 100% pass rate on board examinations l Nursing expansion will result in day, afternoon and evening sections. Enrollment will triple. l Early Childhood enrollment figure does not include over 100 students acquiring early childhood credentials each year.

9 Allied Health Department Planning l The Allied Health Department adopts the CFCC Goals that are pertinent to their programs as their overall planning goals. l Planning starts at unit level and is finalized through discussion with Department Chair.

10 Allied Health Department Major Initiatives 2001-02 Plan and execute move to the new Allied Health wing. Increase faculty and enrollment in the ADN program. Put in place Radiation Therapy. Put in place Medical Sonography. Complete accreditation recommendations for Dental Hygiene. Maintain high pass rates on licensure exams for all programs.

12 Engineering Department Other Facts l Completed plans to combine Drafting and Mechanical Engineering curriculums to improve quality and gain efficiencies. Effective Fall 2001. l CFCC’s powered submarine begins in water testing summer 2001.

15 Public Service Department Enrollment l Paralegal Tech - 43 l Criminal Justice - 86 l BLET - 20 207 total l Cosmetology - 45 l Manicuring - 13

16 Public Service Department Other Facts l Criminal Justice courses are popular electives across the college. l Cosmetology will add Huskins classes for qualified high school students on our campus this year. l Esthetics program should begin Fall 2001.

17 Public Service Department Planning l Departmental planning meeting at the beginning of each semester. - Aligning departmental objectives with college objectives. l Wide scope of planning units (Cosmetology to BLET) makes departmental planning difficult. - All strive for student retention and preparation.

18 Public Service Department Major Initiatives 2001-02 l Begin Esthetics - Fall 2001 l Film and Video Production - delayed due to budget l Preparation for passage of licensure exams (BLET, Cosmetology and Manicuring).

19 Marine Technology Department Enrollment l Marine Technology - 93 l Environmental Science - 8 (ES Program under review - not accepting students.)

20 Marine Technology Department Other Facts l Research Vessel “Dan Moore” participated in recovery of artifacts from the sunken shipwreck thought to be the “Queen Anne’s Revenge” - Blackbeard’s pirate ship. l R/V MARTECH invited to 2001 hydrographic conference to demonstrate state of art geophysical survey instrumentation.

21 Marine Technology Department Planning l Lead Instructor drafts annual program objectives. - Gets input from co-workers and chair l Lead Instructor finalizes objectives. - Enters into SPOL and Departmental IE Notebook l Lead Instructor closes the SPOL loop at the end of the year - Documents results and uses.

22 Marine Technology Department Major Initiatives 2001-02 l Begin $1 million bond funded pier replacement for Marine Technology vessels. l Develop “career track” within program - Hydrographic survey, fisheries, geophysical surveying l Begin planning to develop specifications for R/V Dan Moore replacement.

24 Vocational Department Other Facts Vocational program classes are taught at 9 locations: l Pender Prison l NHC Prison l Topsail High North Campus l Pender Truck Body Repair facility l Workforce Training Center l State Ports l Auto Body Repair Building l Burnett and Emmart Buildings

25 Vocational Department Planning Each Lead Instructor develops program plans including: l Budgets for supplies, equipment repair, travel etc. l Five Year Equipment Plan l Plans approved by Department Chair l All then entered in SPOL system

26 Vocational Department Major initiatives 2001-02 l Start Marine Propulsion diploma program (on hold due to budget situation). l Carpentry students built the classroom/office building for Landscape Gardening. To be located on North campus site summer 2001. l Completed the Truck Body paint and repair facility in cooperation with Pender County Schools. First year full operation starts fall 2001. l Hold second annual CFCC Wooden Boat Show… August 2001.

27 Voc/Tech - Summary l 1417 students enrolled in Voc/Tech Programs. l Programs stay current in rapidly changing fields. l Classes/ programs taught at 11 locations in 3 counties. l Students are getting excellent jobs!
