3.  The idea of scaffolding instruction is to provide instruction just beyond what the learner can do by themselves.  The teacher or tutor can provide the scaffolds so that the student can accomplish tasks they could otherwise not complete without assistance.  Scaffolding is about helping the learner through their specific ZPD.
