2 CANADIAN UNIVERSITIES Quality of education overall Excellent schools with courses in English and/or French; many schools are of international renown for their research University studies focus on a particular major from day 1, but there is flexibility to change majors within a faculty Students with OIB diplomas can often finish Canadian university in 3 years, instead of the usual 4 Canada, in particular Quebec province, is a fascinating melting pot of cultures and language, well-suited to bilingual Lycée students Quebec province schools may be interesting financially for French citizens

3 CANADIAN UNIVERSITIES Admissions offers based on Grades from Première and 1T Terminale (and sometimes Seconde) Most popular universities for French students are in Montreal and Toronto – urban settings

7 Undergraduate Study and Degrees

8 DEGREES Bachelor level : 3 to 4 year courses 3 years for a bachelors degree coming in with OIB diploma. Some students take 3 ½ to 4 years, though, depending on their major, or study abroad program. OIB students may get credit for math, physics, chemistry, econ, etc. Specific courses in certain areas Depends on the school and faculty. Usually, each major corresponds to a certain number of credits, with some courses required and others selected Options to go abroad Study abroad programs

9 UNDERGRADUATE UNIVERSITY COSTS General Costs: Tuition Fees for Quebec province universities: French citizens pay – 4000 to 4400 CAD (in 2014) depending upon the faculty/major; This will be increasing International students pay – 31200 CAD Tuition Fees for Ontario universities: 43500 CAD Tuition Fees for Vancouver universities: 33000 CAD Accommodation Fees approx. 10000 CAD per year These costs might be reduced by financial aid or merit scholarships.

11 APPLYING TO CANADA Simple application proces: Submit grades from Première, 1 st trimester of Terminale and, for scome schools, from Seconde as well Submit Première bac scores Recommendations: No for Quebec schools, Yes for other schools (extracurricular and guidance consellor references) Essays: No for Quebec, Yes for Toronto and Vancouver, and videotaped interview for U. of Toronto Extracurricular activities: No for Quebec, Yes for Ontario Individual applications for Quebec schools, Otherwise, a common app with specific requirements for each school; Grouped applications Apply by mid-January but confirm date for each school
