3 What is plastic? Plastic is the general common term for a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic materials used in a huge, and growing, range of applications. It is almost found everywhere including our houses The term ‘’plastic’’ is derived from the Greek word ''plastikos'' meaning fit for moulding There are two broad categories of plastic materials: thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics

4 Advantages Disadvantages Plastic is strong, good and cheap to produce. Plastic is a nonrenewable resource Plastic is an odourless material It cause cancer Used to make - Water bottles, pens, plastic bags, cups etc. Disadvantage of plastics are combustibility Used to reduce soil and wind erosion It Produces toxic fumes when it is burnt Plastic is unbreakableProduces toxic fumes when it is burnt Advantages and Disadvantages of Plastic

5 IMPACT OF PLASTIC ON OUR ENVIRONMENT It has a disastrous impact on marine life. It kills many sea animals. It is non-biodegradable and pollutes the land. It affect our food chain. Over 250 species have been known to have ingested in plastic There has been a drastic increase in marine litter

6 The conclusion we derive from this presentation is to limit the use of plastic as along with being useful it is harmful.
