MAN UP BIBLE SERIES A Man and His Work Lesson Four

The Real World Most guys think of work as something they have to do, not what they want to do. Only 10 percent of men love the work they do. That means 90 percent of you think your job is boring and meaningless. We usually fall into two categories when it comes to work: lazy or driven. Some of us go to work looking for ways to do as little as possible and the rest of us are going crazy and never getting away from the job. Both are not honoring to God! The sad news today is that it makes no difference whether you are a Christian in the work place today. Surveys show that the work ethics of Christians and non – Christians are identical. How we work determines who we are and if that statement is true then we are in BIG trouble! Lets see what God’s Word has to say to us:

The Real Word Ephesians 2:10 New International Version (NIV) 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. 1 Corinthians 10:31 New International Version (NIV) 31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Colossians 3:17 New International Version (NIV) 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:23-24 New International Version (NIV) 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Real Talk Is your job something you have or want to do? How much influence does your attitude have on your job performance? What can you do to change your work environment?

Real Steps Qualities of a Godly employee : Energy – (Prov. 26:12 -16) – Do not be lazy. Enthusiasm – (Col.3:23) You are not working for the man, you work for God! Whole heartedness – (Eph. 6: 5-8) – God is always watching you! Make Him Proud! Excellence – (Gen 1:31) – Make your work Good! Take a moment and commit your work life to God’s Glory.

Time to Close I want to remind you that YOUR WORK MATTERS TO GOD! It is not a curse, or a necessity, not a way to make a living; it is to be your highest expression of who you are. Men you need to be proud of the work you do! The flip side of this is that you need to give your 40 hours and make it the best 40 hours of your week and then go home to your family and give them the best 40 hours of the rest of your week. That will make you all you can be! You can change your place of work if you see it as God’s holy work. Do it to the glory of God and see what a difference that makes! Men, everything about your work must be given to God; your attitudes, your intensity and your skill! Do you work for the glory of God? Do you work hard? Do you have some enthusiasm at work? Do you try to bring excellence in all you do? Will you right now commit your work life to the glory of God? It is time to MAN UP!
