REVIEW Inverse Operations
For each equation, write the inverse operation needed to solve for the variable. Then, check your answer! a.) y + 7 = subtract 7 b.) a - 21 = add 21 c.) 5 - s = subtract 5 d.) x – (-3) = 5 subtract 3 tap tap tap tap

REVIEW Solving One Step Addition & Subtraction
Equations

To solve equations, you must use inverse operations in order to isolate the variable on one side of the equation. Whatever you do to one side of an equation, you MUST do to the other side! +5 +5

Examples: y + 9 = 16 The inverse of adding 9 is subtracting 9 y = 7 m - 16 = 4 The inverse of subtracting 16 is adding 16 m = 20 Remember - whatever you do to one side of an equation, you MUST do to the other!!!

One Step Equations (with + and -)
Solve each equation then click the box to see work & solution. x + 8 = 12 x = 4 x - 23 = 43 x = 66 x - 18 = 51 x = 69 x - 4 = 7 +4 +4 x = 11 click to show inverse operation click to show inverse operation click to show inverse operation x + 2 = 14 x = 12 click to show inverse operation click to show inverse operation x + 5 = 13 x = 8 click to show inverse operation click to show inverse operation

Solving One Step Multiplication & Division Equations
NOW… Solving One Step Multiplication & Division Equations

What is the INVERSE operation for: Addition? Subtraction
Subtraction? Addition Multiplication? Division Division? Multiplication click to show inverse operation click to show inverse operation click to show inverse operation click to show inverse operation

Examples: 6m = 72 The inverse of multiplying by 6 is dividing by 6 m = 12 2 x m = 3 x 2 The inverse of dividing by 2 is multiplying by 2 2 m = 6 Remember - whatever you do to one side of an equation, you MUST do to the other!!!

One Step Equations (mult & div)
Solve each equation in your journal or on a whiteboard. Then, check your answers below! 3x = 15 x = 5 4m = 12 m = 3 25 = 5n 5 = n m = 12 2 2 x m = 12 x 2 m = 24 x = 7 5 5x = 7 x 5 x = 35 4 = x 6 6 x 4 = 6x 24 = x click to show inverse operation click to show inverse operation click to show inverse operation click to show inverse operation click to show inverse operation click to show inverse operation
