3 Student Expectations… Here’s what I expect you to do as a part of this class. 4  Explain how archaeologists and historians have learned about the daily lives of ancient Egyptians.  List examples of everyday life in ancient Egypt. How do the activities of the Ancient Egyptians compare to your activities! 8.4.7.B : Explain the importance of historical documents, artifacts, and sites which are critical to world history.

5 EVERDAY LIFE IN ANCIENT EGYPT  The Average Egyptian was not “Middle Class” but “Lower Middle Class” or “working poor”  Everyday life depended where you were on the social ladder.

6  For the next part of class I want to open a gallery of different Egyptian activities that you guys can explore.  Please move yourself into each breakout room and read about each part of Egyptian Life!  When you come back to the main room, click the googledoc link and answer the questions to get credit for your work today!

7 ACTIVITIES IN ANCIENT EGYPT  How about a cruise on the River Nile?  Watch two teams of boats filled with men holding poles, all trying to knock each other into the river.  Hunting waterfowl OR How about hunting crocodiles, lions, or hippopotamuses?

8  Ancient Egyptians loved playing all sorts of games like Senet (like our modern backgammon)  They also liked to play with dolls and leather balls.

9 Which of these was NOT an Egyptian pet? Hint! It doesn’t have legs!

10  Egyptians usually dress in white linen garments.  Men wore skirts or robes and Women wore dresses.  Makeup, wigs, perfume, and curls were the fashion of the day.

11 MAKEUP, JEWELRY,AND GREASE?  Both men and women wore paint around there eyes.  Both loved to wear fancy jewelry made from gold, silver, copper, shells, and semiprecious stones.  At banquets people often put cones of perfumed grease on top of their wigs. When it melted it ran down their face and cooled them. It also made them smell nice.

12  Like us today, Egyptians loved good music.  Love songs played on the lute or harp were the favorites of the day. Ever heard of the Egyptian Dance?
