1 NGO’s Non-Governmental Organizations Curriculum Outcome: 4.3 investigating a current global issue through a selected Non- Governmental organization (NGO) explain how Atlantic Canadians shape political culture by exercising power and influencing political decisions

2 NGO’s Now that you’ve begun to see the positive change you can affect as individuals through the difference project, it’s time to see what can happen when groups of people unite with a common cause. Non-governmental organizations are at the heart of the democratic process, acting as the voice of society… the voices of global citizenship. They exist because groups of citizens ban together to do something about an issue.

Where do they get their funding? Where in the world does the organization work? What are some detailed examples of the kinds of impact this organization is having on the world? Why should I/others join this organization or donate/contribute to their cause? What rules do NGOs typically abide by and rely upon? (*Hint: You may want to watch the video link on ‘What is an NGO’.) * Develop your answers by going into adequate detail!!
