4 ADVOCACY - In my eyes, health should be implemented into all classrooms because a healthy student is an effective student. Students who experience hunger, physical/emotional abuse and inactivity are linked to low grades and poor test scores. (Carlson) Schools are critical in playing a role in the health of a student, folding 50 hours of coordinated school health into our curriculum will greatly impact our students academic careers.

6 AN EFFECTIVE CURRICULUM SHOULD… -Teaching functional health information (essential knowledge) -Shaping personal values and beliefs that support healthy behaviors -Shaping group norms that value a healthy lifestyle -Developing the essential health skills necessary to adopt, practice, and maintain health-enhancing behaviors. -HEALTHY STUDENT = SUCCESSFUL STUDENT

7 ALSO… -For most students, they will be in school for 6 hours a day, 5 days a week from ages 5-18. During this time students will be developing intellectually, emotionally and physically. -Coordinated School Health can be the building blocks of a student’s academic career.
