3 African American Women Plight It is tough being a African American person in this country but especially tough for African American women. They have always been marginalized throughout history. As slaves they were beaten and raped by their slave masters and other slaves frequently. Slaves were not allowed to get married so when they could be sold at anytime and separated from there families. When slavery ended Black women still did not have the same rights as black men and not only had to deal with racism but sexism as well.

5 Civil Rights African Americans in United States still lived in a unequal world of disenfranchisement, segregation and various forms of oppression, including race-inspired violence. “Jim Crow” laws at the local and state levels barred them from classrooms and bathrooms, from theaters and train cars, from juries and legislatures. African Americans like MLK, Malcom x, Rosa Parks and groups just as SNCC ( Student nonviolent coordinating committee) really fought for the rights that minorties have today.
