2 Technology Expectations  What does the state of Georgia expect K-2 elementary children to know?  Essentially, these standards beg the question, what am I the elementary teacher expected to teach?

3 Kindergarten  Georgia Standards  Technology Basics 1. Identify basic technology tools. 2.Show understanding of basic technology and telecommunication tools. 3.Show an understanding of when to use basic technology tools in one’s surroundings. 4.Carefully uses the technology. 5.Use the basic technology and applications.

4 Kindergarten  Georgia Standards  Production 1.With the help of the teacher a student uses technology in the writing process. 2.With help of the teacher a student will use multimedia tools to express ideas.

5 Kindergarten  Georgia  Communication 1. With the help of the teacher a student uses technology to obtain information and communicate with others.

6 Kindergarten  Georgia  Other Technology Concerns 1.With teacher assistance, the student will use research techniques. 2.With teacher assistance, technology will be used to solve problems and make decisions. 3.Distinguish the correct use of information and information technology.

7 First Grade  Georgia Standards  Technology Basics 1. 14 2 nd Grade  Georgia  Other Technology Concerns 1.With teacher assistance, the student will use research techniques. 2.With teacher assistance, technology will be used to solve problems and make decisions. 3.Distinguish the correct use of information and information technology.

15 What Does All This Mean? Summary:  Teachers will need to be knowledgeable about the technologies accessible to them and their students.  Teachers are required to teach the student how to carefully and effectively use the computer and other technology tools including digital cameras, scanners, printers etc..  Students will also need to know how to research information using technology. i.e. Determine whether or not The Very Hungry Caterpillar has been checked out using the library’s electronic catalog.

16 Summary continued  Students will have to learn about Microsoft Word.  Students will have to be taught how to use programs such as Inspiration that have webbing capabilities.
