Amazing Exhibitions

What are we talking about here how big is your project? how big is your budget? A major temporary exhibition A major redisplay Simply one display case All need to be considered in a similar way All need clear, agreed parameters which will also include Timescales (Don’t underestimate how long a single case could take Who will do what/responsibilities

Before we begin to develop our exhibition/display What are the questions we need to ask ourselves? Why are we doing this? What are we focussing on? What have we got? What do we need? What will success look like?

WHY? Why? What?Who for? How Done? How managed? Evaluation?

Why are we doing this? Is it for a celebration or anniversary e.g. 1 st World War or local celebration e.g. Aviation sites or Louth and Cadwell Park? Is it something that is missing from the museum story? Is it something your audience have asked about? Is it about building community links and partnerships? Is it looking to bring in a new audience including repeat visitors?

What are we focussing on? What is your exhibition/display about – how would you describe it to me Is there an object or theme Is this object/theme linked to your own collection Is this a significant object to be highlighted Is this a new acquisition Local, regional or national links Link collections to something in the public eye e.g. a TV series (Downton or Mr Selfridge) Other ways to tell a story without an object e.g. digital Stories of Steam and Oil – Lincs to the past website
