3 You will need a 35 mm SLR camera with manual controls in working condition. There are two basic types of 35 mm SLR cameras: manual and automatic For an overview of the differences read chapter 1 in the textbook. Either kind of camera will be ok for this course. Where to find a camera: Relatives Friends Former photography students Local camera stores Online camera stores Ebay Sources for new and used cameras:  KEH Camera KEH Camera  EBAY EBAY  ADORAMA ADORAMA  B&H PHOTO B&H PHOTO  Update: the Vivitar V3800N seems to be out of production and its price has doubled over the past few months on Amazon. This cameras is not worth spending over $300 on new! You might find it used on Ebay or KEH.

4 Some commonly found models of used 35mm SLR cameras: Once the king of basic, “meat and potatoes” cameras, this camera can still be found used. For more information and up-to-date Ebay listing check out Ken Rockwell’s site: http://kenrockwell.com/pentax/k1000.htm http://kenrockwell.com/pentax/k1000.htm One of Canon’s most popular models, and available in various incarnations, this camera is still in use by many film photographers today. For more information and up-to-date Ebay listing check out Ken Rockwell’s site: http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/fd/ae-1-program.htm

5 Nikon made (and still makes) an extensive line of film cameras including the FE, FM, and F 1-5 series. For more information and up-to-date Ebay listing check out Ken Rockwell’s site: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/fe/fe-fm-comparisons.htm My first 35mm SLR camera was a Minolta SRT 101 given to me by my father. I then used the 201 model through my undergraduate college courses. They not only hold segmental value for me, but are great basic cameras. I now own a Minolta X-700, the last non-auto focus film camera they produced.
