1 Building energy businesses: Knowledge sharing workshop with business incubators & entrepreneurs from Asia & Africa RENEWABLE ENERGY INCUBATOR Kampala, Uganda Please briefly describe your institution/company : The Renewable Energy Incubator was established in October 2011 as a result of an NCF funded project “Sustainable Renewable Energy Businesses in Uganda” with an objective to support local renewable energy companies utilizing renewable energy in a sustainable and financially beneficial manner. The Incubator is to-date implementing a project “Business Incubator for Renewable Energy Enterprises” with development goal “to consolidate local renewable energy and sustainable enterprises and improve energy access in Uganda”. The Incubator works directly with RE entrepreneurs. Participant’s name and title: SHIRA BAYIGGA MUKIIBI Please briefly your role at the institution/company: I am responsible for managing the coordination and implementation of all activities and creating meaningful partnerships for the benefit of entrepreneurs and the Incubator.

2 Energy Access Please explain the work your organization does on energy access: 1.Piloting in biomass gasification technology -Capacity building and knowledge transfer through FK exchange programme -Successfully set up an operational husk power gasifier as a pilot in an off-grid central region of Uganda mainly for electrification. -Set up an additional 3 gasifiers in 3 different off-grid regions in Uganda mainly agricultural value addition and provision of electricity 2. Incubation services to RE entrepreneurs (various RE technologies) 3. Networking and partnerships to upscale proven technologies within RE sector Best practices in decentralised renewable energy access: sharing knowledge for renewable energy enterprise development

3 Entrepreneurship/Enterprise Development Please explain your institution’s work on entrepreneurship / enterprise development (e.g. financing, business incubation, technology development, etc): 1.Incubation services: -Business plan development -Proof of concept (Market studies, Feasibility studies, Technical testing) -Investment support -Mentorship -Technical support Best practices in decentralised renewable energy access: sharing knowledge for renewable energy enterprise development
