Simply put, there is an event.
This causes something else to happen.

Global warming means that the ice caps are melting, and this is causing sea levels to rise.

5. Used with the word … ‘because’ …
If you read a sentence with the word because then this usually means that the effect is mentioned before the cause. For example:
The government in North Korea is angry because of a movie made in America.
Effect
Cause

6. How does this relate to Frindle?
The book Frindle is told in chronological order.
Therefore it is easy to spot the cause and effect of events in the story.
SAMPLE QUESTIONS:
What causes a reporter to take an interest in the Frindle story?
What is the effect that the published story as on the characters in Chapter 11?
(Use the book to help, you should have your book with you during the assessment).

7. Assessment Paper
There will be questions in the assessment paper that relate to cause and effect.
- a) What was the effect of in chapter ?
- b) What causes to happen in chapter ?
Task: Practise with a friend and try to make some cause and effect questions from the book. Then, find another pair and see if they can answer your questions and see if you can answer theirs.
Please make sure that you understand the whole story in Frindle, if you do then you will have no problem in the assessment paper. If you don’t then you may find the paper quite challenging.
