GROUP 5 Monoclonal Antibodies for Cancer Treatment

mABs There are two types of Monoclonal Antibodies for treatment of cancer. NAKED mABs. Conjugated mABs.

Naked mABs Works independently. Most commonly used. Attaches to antigens on cancer cells. some work by binding to antigens on other non- cancerous cells, or to even free-floating proteins.

Conjugated mABs Monoclonal antibodies joined to a chemotherapy drug, another kind of toxin, or radioactive particles are called conjugated monoclonal antibodies. Lessens the damage to normal cells in other parts of the body. Two specific types we going to discuss: 1. Radiolabelled antibodies. 2. Chemolabelled antibodies.

Radiolabelled antibodies. Attached radioactive particle. Radio immunotherapy (RIT). Ibritumomab tiuxetan (Zevalin). Ibritumomab tiuxetan Zevalin is administered with association with Rituximab "Zevalin therapeutic regimen." Two stepped procedure. This drug cost $28,000 as a single dose. Side effects are there.

Chemolabelled antibodies. Powerful chemotherapy drugs attached to them. They are also known as antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). Brentuximab vedotin (Adcetris) is an antibody that targets the CD30 antigen attached to a chemo drug called MMAE. This drug has 3 parts. Brentuximab vedotin used to treat Hodgkin lymphoma and anaplastic large cell lymphoma.Hodgkin lymphoma Infusion into a vein. Costs over a $100,000 for a course of treatment, or $4,500 per vial.
